The Wheel Works: Guelph’s Hottest Pot Shop!

Did you know that pottery is one of the best forms of art for zen and therapy? Sheena opened The Wheel Works shortly after the pandemic ended so that Guelph and the surrounding area can come together and heal together in a community space.

At The Wheel Works we believe that art can heal all wounds. Between music, the social community and the wonders of clay, we consider all of these pillars to be important for a creative atmosphere. Sheena, owner and operator, is more than happy to help achieve your goals of creating with clay.

Sheena welcomes anyone curious about The Wheel Works to come into the studio for a free tour so she can show you how wonderful The Works really is!

Memberships

To become a member at The Wheel Works is simple. Come into the studio for a tour during our open hours. You must be over 18 years of age (due to insurance reasons). There is also some paperwork to be signed. You must have taken 2 beginners classes with a City run program or Ceramic artist (6-8 week courses). If you take a beginners class with The Wheel Works, you only require one class with us and you receive a full membership upon completion of the class.

Once you are a member, you can start coming into the studio for Open Studio (6 days a week).

We also have monthly memberships available for our more passionate members who would like to use the studio at their own discretion. Please see chart below.

Open Studio

Taken a class? Been doing pottery for years but don’t want the mess at home? Come to The Wheel Works for Open Studio! Open studio is available to anyone with a membership. Two oversized building tables and up to 14 wheels (when classes aren’t running which takes 6) available to all members including all of the luxury tools that the Wheel Works carries so to make your time count for every minute. Create like the pros or at your own pace, it is up to you!

Extruder, slab rollers and GR Pottery forms, Oh my!

Open Studio is $13.75/hour. Clay is on top of the cost but, we have that here and in small quantities so you can get what you need so you don’t have to store it.

Wednesday Workshop

Workshops are for people who would like to learn new skills with ceramics. From throwing big to throwing mini-pots off the hump, we teach it all. We also provide regular “Refresh on the Wheel” for those that would like to get back to pottery but it has been a few years (or more!) since you have sat down in front of the wheel.

At The Wheel Works we want to make sure that you can accomplish what your mind can come up with! Our workshops are here to help you achieve your goals.

We also have many workshops available for the public (no membership required). We have fun workshops that aren’t available anywhere else and hope that you will have your next date night or girls night with us!

Groups 6+ can book private workshops for birthdays or groups of friends!

Upcoming Workshops

Glaze Club

Glaze mixing can be daunting and exasperating. Come to the glaze club to hear from other potters on what glazes they are working on or wanting to try. Test glazes from members and potters that you can try and bring home with you.

While glaze chemistry is more for the intermediate potter, everyone is welcome to come and participate. All you need is a membership.

Attendance is free, donation appreciated for any glaze tests provided. We typically hold a glaze club meeting on the last Sunday of the month, please see our social media or studio community board for updates.

Pottery Classes

Beginner Class

Never thrown before? Taken a class or two but need more help? Pottery for beginners will help you learn how to center, pull and trim in no time!

Our instructors are very patient and enjoy teaching, there is no such thing as a stupid question. This class comes with a free membership upon completion of the full course.
